Fact Checking The Sunday Shows - June 12, 2011
Sunday saw multiple GOPers blaming President Obama for job losses that are rightly blamed on President Bush's recession and pretending that Obama policies haven't started to turn the job market around. Republicans have never stopped misleading people about the impact of the Recovery Act, but ignoring two million new private-sector jobs since February 2010 is shameless. Presidential hopeful Tim Pawlenty, RNC Chairman Reince Priebus and Sen. Richard Shelby (R-AL) each offered one jobs lie or another. Pawlenty claimed that tax cuts pay for themselves (they don't), that President Obama is "out of ideas" on economic and entitlement issues (false), that we "have to" cut Social Security (nope), that the Affordable Care Act cut $500 billion from Medicare (wrong again), and that he didn't really leave a $6 billion deficit behind at the end of his term as Governor of Minnesota (nice try). Meanwhile, Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI) falsely claimed on CBS that the GOP Medicare plan doesn't affect current seniors, Sen. Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) told CNN that ending oil subsidies will increase gas prices, and Rep. Charlie Bass (R-NH) told CNN that the debt ceiling deadline isn't real because "the global economy will understand" if we default.

AAN Achieves "Extreme" Dishonesty In Attack On Kuster
American Action Network is out with a new attack ad that disingenuously labels House candidate Ann McLane Kuster (D-NH) "extreme" in an effort to scare monger about Democratic policies. The ad not only mischaracterizes the Affordable Care Act as a "government Healthcare takeover," but it absurdly blames Kuster for wanting to increase taxes on families and businesses and accuses her of supporting "job killing taxes for cap and trade." In reality, there was no government takeover of health care; congressional Democrats agree that tax cuts for the middle class should be extended; and clean energy legislation will strengthen the economy and create millions of American jobs while costing families less than a quarter a day.

Chamber Of Commerce's "Liberal Express" Is Fueled With Lies
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce's latest attack on Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH) accuses him of riding Nancy Pelosi's "liberal express" down the road to financial ruin. The Chamber's ad questions Hodes' credentials as a "fiscal conservative" and suggests that "New Hampshire can't afford his big-government scheme." In reality, however, it was President Bush who left Americans with "trillions in debt" while Hodes' vote for the Affordable Care Act was a vote to reduce the deficit, create jobs, and provide thousands of New Hampshire residents with health care coverage. Likewise, Hodes' support of the Recovery Act helped create jobs and curb the rise of unemployment.

Americans For Prosperity's False Attack On Lynch Suggests He Compromised Public Safety
Americans for Prosperity is out with a new ad attacking New Hampshire Governor John Lynch for supporting the Justice Reinvestment Act (Senate Bill 500). The ad dishonestly suggests that in supporting the legislation, Governor Lynch sought to balance the budget at the expense of public safety. In reality, the act will strengthen public safety while reducing costs to taxpayers.

American Crossroads Attacks Hodes For Support Of Economy-Boosting Stimulus
American Crossroads' new ad attacks Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH) for his support of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (otherwise known as the stimulus). The ad claims that Hodes' support for the "pork-filled stimulus bill" shows that he is not a "real fiscal conservative." However, the ad mischaracterizes stimulus-funded projects and ignores the benefits of the bill. In fact, the Recovery Act saved millions of jobs, lowered unemployment, and boosted the nation's GDP. In addition, American Crossroads criticizes Hodes for authorizing $39 million for "office upgrades," funding which was actually sought by the Kansas legislature.

Ad Check: Chamber Of Commerce's Attack On Rep. Paul Hodes Is Deeply Dishonest
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has released a new campaign ad attacking Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH), the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate. The ad claims that Hodes supported "a government takeover of health care" and "a job-killing energy tax," and blames the $13 trillion national debt on Hodes and the Democrats. In reality, the Affordable Care Act is not a "government takeover," the clean energy bill passed by House Democrats would create millions of American jobs, and the national debt has grown because of irresponsible policies from the Bush era.

American Action Network Ad Smears Rep. Hodes And Clean Energy
On August 3, 2010, the American Action Network released an ad attacking Rep. Paul Hodes (D-NH) for supporting the American Clean Energy and Security Act. The ad revives the false claims that the bill would dramatically increase energy costs and gas prices, and kill 2 million jobs. In reality, investing in clean energy would boost America's economy by $111 billion and create up to 1.9 million jobs.

Sen. Gregg Forgets His Past With Reconciliation
In a February 4, 2010 "ideas piece" in Politico, Sen. Judd Gregg (R-UT) once again feigned disdain at the possibility of using the budget reconciliation process to help Americans gain access to quality health care. Yet, as Media Matters Action Network has previously noted, Sen. Gregg was the Senate's leading proponent of the maneuver just a few short years ago.

On April 28, 2009, Sen. Judd Gregg took to the floor of the Senate to criticize Democrats for considering the use of the budget reconciliation process to bring much needed change to America's health care system. Yet in 2005, Gregg repeatedly defended the Republican Party's usage of reconciliation to 'cram' Bush's agenda down the country's throat.
