NRCC Ad Launches Bogus Attacks On Kratovil

In an ad attacking Rep. Frank Kratovil (D-MD), the National Republican Congressional Committee claims that Kratovil "isn't independent," holding up the statistic that he voted with Speaker Nancy Pelosi "most of the time." Yet this claim is relatively meaningless: Most congressional votes are non-controversial, and even conservative Republicans vote with Nancy Pelosi "most of the time." The ad also disparages the Recovery Act, suggesting that Kratovil's support for it resulted in "record debt and high unemployment." In fact, the Recovery Act created jobs and boosted the economy, and the skyrocketing debt is a legacy of Bush-era Republican policies.

Commission on Hope, Growth And Prosperity Misleads On Debt In New Ads

The Commission on Hope, Growth and Prosperity, an innocent-sounding group founded by GOP operative Scott Reed, is out with ads attacking Reps. Suzanne Kosmos (D-FL) and Dutch Ruppersberger (D-MD) for increasing the national debt to a "staggering 13.4 trillion."  The ad suggests that President Obama and Congressional Democrats are wholly responsible for the debt.  Of course, the debt did not occur within a vacuum and mostly increased due to policies enacted by President Bush and the impact of the recession.  Lastly, spending initiatives supported by President Obama and Reps. Kosmos and Ruppersberger were needed to in order to get the nation out of the worst economic downtown since 1929.

Rep. Bartlett Falsely Accuses "Big Government" Of Senselessly Closing Car Dealerships

In a June 2, 2009 blog post on The Hill titled "Big Government, the only winner from government-ordered dealer closings," Rep. Roscoe Bartlett falsely accuses the government of forcing GM and Chrysler to close dealerships. In addition, he says the wisdom in closing dealerships Chrysler and GM have described as "struggling" and "underperforming" is "impossible to find."
