Known nationally as a key proponent of anti-illegal immigrant legislation, Kris Kobach has also set his sights on becoming the Kansas Secretary of State. A large part of his push for the seat rests on his assertion that Kansas elections are rife with fraud. In truth, instances of voter fraud are rare in Kansas. That fact and Kobach's moves to enact laws that prevent the elderly and the poor from voting probably won't endear him to Kansans.

Kobach Used Anti-Mexican Immigrant Book In His Course Curriculum
As a professor at the University of Missouri-Kansas City law school, Kris Kobach assigned students the book Who Are We? by Samuel Huntington. The text, written by Kobach's mentor Huntington, includes passages arguing that Mexican immigration is the cause of the immigration problems in the United States, that all Mexican immigrants should learn English and convert to Evangelical Protestantism, and cautions readers against the rising threat of a Reconquista.

In the town of Hazleton, PA, Kobach became involved in a legal case to prevent illegal immigrants from renting homes within the city limits. After a lawsuit from the ACLU, getting overturned by a federal judge, and a pending appellate decision, the legislation has cost the town of 30,000 nearly $2.4 million.

Kris Kobach, Republican candidate for Kansas Secretary of State and active anti-immigrant lawyer, has helped craft legislation for the local government in Farmers Branch, Texas to put rental restrictions on illegal immigrants. His legislation has twice been judged unconstitutional and has thus far cost $4 million in legal fees, $100,000 of which have been pocketed by Kobach.

Lawsuits against the ordinance are pending and although he offered to defend the case "pro-bono," the town's insurance provider rejected Kobach's offer and will seek counsel elsewhere.

Citing his 46% success rate and referring to other towns who said they would not go through the process again, the city of Albertville, AL voted against hiring Kris Kobach to represent them in possible immigration cases.
