American Crossroads Lies About Jack Conway Just Don't Fit

Something about the latest American Crossroads ad just doesn't fit.  The Karl Rove-affiliated group recently attacked Kentucky Senate hopeful Jack Conway (D-KY) in an attempt to puzzle viewers with lies about the Affordable Care Act.  The ad warns of "higher insurance premiums," when they will stay the same or decrease for most Americans. Worse, Crossroads claims the bill is "slashing" seniors' benefits, when their Medicare benefits will actually increase. When you put the pieces together, the picture is clear:  American Crossroads doesn't want you to know the truth about health care reform.

The Only Thing Conning Kentucky Voters Is American Crossroads' Latest Ad

In addition to an unnecessarily vicious attempt to impugn Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway's name (literally), American Crossroads GPS' latest ad contains one of the most brazenly dishonest attacks from the group yet. Crossroads blames Conway for increases in utility rates in Kentucky despite the fact that the final decision on utility rates rests not with the attorney general but with a separate commission. The ad's statement that it's Conway's job to negotiate on the behalf of consumers is true, but the implication that Conway has in any way shirked that responsibility is utterly and demonstrably false.

First Amendment Alliance's Dishonest Meth Lab Attack On Conway

The First Amendment Alliance, a right-wing soft-money group whose funding is unknowable until their third-quarter IRS filings come in just before the election, is running an ad against Senate candidate Jack Conway (D-KY) that's so dishonest one TV station has already pulled it off the airwaves. Titled "No Thanks Jack," the ad suggests that Conway dragged his feet in setting up a statewide drug task force, and is therefore responsible for doubling the number of meth labs in the state. The ad ignores data that shows meth lab busts were unusually low when Conway took office, and suggests — absurdly — that more meth lab busts under Conway's tenure prove he's failing to tackle the state's drug problem. In fact, a 2005 law that made methamphetamine ingredients harder to access caused a temporary decline in lab busts, and police attribute the statistical jump to tougher enforcement and a better-educated public.

American Crossroads Attacks Conway With Tired Health Care And Stimulus Falsehoods

American Crossroads has released a new ad in Kentucky attacking Jack Conway for supporting health care reform and the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. In addition to mischaracterizing the Affordable Care Act as "Obama's liberal health care takeover," the ad falsely claims the stimulus package "failed." In reality, there was no takeover of health care and the Recovery Act saved millions of jobs, lowered unemployment, and boosted the nation's GDP. Most outrageous of all, the ad is full of innuendo about Conway's funding when American Crossroads is spending millions of dollars on these ads without saying where much of it comes from.

American Crossroads' New Ad Is Full Of Bad Facts

American Crossroads, a conservative 527 group linked to Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie, has produced a new ad attacking Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway and the Affordable Care Act. The ad recycles the well-worn Republican lies about "job-killing taxes," insurance premiums going up, and Medicare cuts. In reality, the Affordable Care Act will lower premiums, create jobs, strengthen Medicare without reducing benefits for seniors, improve the economy and cut the deficit.

American Crossroads' Misleading Attack On Jack Conway

American Crossroads, a conservative 527 group linked to Karl Rove and Ed Gillespie, has produced a new ad attacking Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway for supporting the Affordable Care Act and for refusing to sue the federal government to stop its implementation.  The ad accuses Conway of supporting cuts to Medicare and higher insurance premiums.  But none of that is true. Worse, the ad neglects to mention the benefits of health care reform.
