Experts Tear Down Judge Vinson's Activist Health Care Ruling
In the wake of Judge Roger Vinson's decision striking down the Affordable Care Act, legal scholars and policy experts from across the political spectrum have dissected the ruling — and rejected it wholesale. Both conservative and liberal legal experts find Vinson's interpretation of the Constitution and disregard for precedent unconvincing, while wonks hear echoes of Bush v. Gore in his 'just-this-once tone,' and see Vinson's GOP background in his unabashed shout-outs to the Tea Party and right-wing Family Research Council.

Family Research Council Falsely Claims Only Two Re-Elected House Republicans Voted To Repeal DADT
The Family Research Council emailed an outraged press release to supporters yesterday denouncing the House vote to repeal "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." In the message, FRC voices its "huge disappointment" with Rep. Jeff Flake (R-AZ), saying he was joined by "only one other Republican that was reelected, Rep. Ron Paul (Texas)," in supporting repeal. In fact, ten returning House Republicans voted to end the military's ban on openly gay troops.

The Anti-Gay Family Research Council Paints Gay Troops As Sexual Predators
The Family Research Council (FRC) hosted a live webcast on Thursday in order to rally support against the repeal of "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." In a series of interviews, the group spun Department of Defense data to paint gay men and women as sexual predators and threats to national security through lies about military effectiveness and enlistment.

Fact Checking The Sunday Shows - August 8, 2010
On Sunday's Meet the Press, Reps. John Boehner (R-OH) and Mike Pence (R-IN) dodged repeated questions about the cost of extending the Bush tax cuts. Both indirectly suggested that government doesn't need to pay for tax cuts. There is a clear consensus among economists across the political spectrum that tax cuts don't pay for themselves, and that letting tax cuts swell deficits is, in a Bush adviser's words, "just future taxes." Rep. Boehner also suggested Social Security is unsustainable, and Gov. Mitch Daniels (R-IN) agreed on Fox News Sunday. In fact, Social Security is solvent through 2037, and the shortfall thereafter is fairly small. Elsewhere, Tony Perkins told Face the Nation viewers that the Prop. 8 decision ignored the impact of no-fault divorce laws on marriage, when in fact the ruling specifically addressed the subject.

Family Research Council Spreads Homophobic Falsehoods In Misleading Email
On January 6, 2010, Tony Perkins of the Family Research Council sent an email to supporters that falsely claimed the Employee Non-Discrimination Act "would require every employer in America to open every position to homosexuals... and 'transgenders'" including "Christian owned businesses and potentially Christian ministries." In reality, the bill simply prevents unlawful discrimination, and even exempts small businesses and religious organizations.

On November 19, 2009, the conservative Family Research Council sent an email to supporters that falsely claimed the Employee Non-Discrimination Act would "force churches, small businesses run by Christians, and faith-based charities to hire nonbelievers or face federal investigation."
