AAN's Bogus Attack On Health Care Reform Is A Complete "Mess"

Norm Coleman's American Action Network has set the standard for deceptive advertising this election season, and the organization's latest ad against Rep. Chris Murphy (D-CT) is no exception. In attacking Murphy's support of the Affordable Care Act, AAN's attacks range from the ludicrous to the flat-out false. Contrary to AAN's assertions, the law does not provide "free health care for illegal immigrants," "jail time for anyone without coverage," or $500 billion in cuts to Medicare. Likewise, AAN's attempts to scare voters about higher premiums and increased government intervention ring hollow.

American Action Network Tries To Turn Health Care Reform On Its Head

American Action Network's falsehood-laden ad tries to convince voters that Reps. Charlie Wilson (D-OH) and Chris Murphy (D-CT) have done damage to the American health care system by voting in favor of the Affordable Care Act. In reality, the health care reform law improves access to and quality of health care for millions of Americans, including seniors, without cutting Medicare. The ad's claim that "illegal immigrants" will be provided with free health care is an outright lie, as is the claim that the law provides Viagra for sex offenders. The latter is the result of a ploy by Sen. Tom Coburn designed to make Democrats look bad.

Fact Checking The Sunday Shows - September 26, 2010

Sunday's political talk shows didn't feature anything new as GOP Pledge Week wrapped up. Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT) and Tea Party Senate favorite Ken Buck (R-CO) each suggested in separate appearances that cutting rich people's taxes helps the economy by spurring investment (it does not). Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) misled Face the Nation viewers about the impact of the Recovery Act (which helped the economy start growing again, despite what he says). Meanwhile, Senate hopeful Marco Rubio (R-FL) exaggerated the effect of the Arizona legislature's follow-on legislation that supposedly prevents racial profiling in the hunt for illegal immigrants. In reality, however, the add-on legislation was a cosmetic measure designed to expand profiling opportunities to include municipal ordinance violations.

Linda McMahon Attacks Richard Blumenthal With Clean Energy Lies

In a new ad attacking Richard Blumenthal, Linda McMahon's Senate campaign repeats a slew of lies about legislation increasing America's investment in clean energy.  Contrary to McMahon's false claims, investing in clean energy would boost America's economy by $111 billion and create up to 1.9 million jobs.  And at a time when Americans are seeking new solutions to rebuild our economy and break our dependence on foreign energy sources, House Republicans have proposed the failed policies pursued by President Bush.
