Americans For Job Security Continues Absurd Attacks On Gov. Manchin Over Law He Couldn't Vote For
Americans for Job Security's attacks on West Virginia governor Joe Manchin, who is running for Senate, are, without exception, ludicrous. Each attack is based on the premise that Manchin's support for the Recovery Act amounted to authorization of wasteful spending on "turtle tunnels," "ant research," "cocaine for monkeys," "studying the atmosphere of Neptune," "hunting for dinosaur eggs," and an "accordion festival." Yet Governor Manchin had no opportunity to vote on the Recovery Act (which also helped keep Americans out of an economic depression). Furthermore, many of the projects named benefit people — not just animals — and most were not directly included in the Recovery Act but rather were grants distributed by organizations like the National Science Foundation.

Why Didn't The Turtle Cross The Road? Americans For Job Security Killed It
In its newest ad, Americans for Job Security's only line of attack against Governor Joe Manchin (D-WV) is to try to link him to outlandish-sounding projects via his support for the Recovery Act — despite the fact that, as governor, Manchin did not have the opportunity to vote on the Recovery Act. The ad suggests that recovery spending went to useless projects that benefit turtles, study ants, and subject monkeys to cocaine. In fact, all three projects the ad mentions helped improve employment, safety and health for people — not just animals. Furthermore, the Recovery Act as a whole created jobs and bolstered the economy against further downturn.

Americans For Job Security Ad Robs Voters Of The Truth
In Americans for Job Security's attack ad against Rep. Jason Altmire (D-PA), the organization equates Altmire and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi with felons who break into houses and steal cars. The ad suggests that Altmire's votes for Nancy Pelosi and "her wasteful stimulus" bill have increased the debt and resulted in 2.5 million jobs lost. In fact, the stimulus bill has added an estimated 3.3 million jobs, while the debt and deficit were actually fueled by Bush-era economic policies and the recession.

New Ad, Old Falsehoods: Americans For Job Security's Dishonest Attack On The Recovery Act
In a new attack ad called "Price", the conservative soft-money group Americans for Job Security links Rep. Bob Etheridge (D-NC) to Speaker Pelosi and then falsely claims that the Democratic response to the economic crisis "failed" and ballooned the debt. In reality, the Recovery Act turned our economy around once it took effect and the deficits derive from Bush administration policy mistakes.
