What Do Rick Scott And The Lockerbie Bomber Have In Common?

In June 2009, Conservatives for Patients' Rights produced a 30-minute infomercial that illustrated the many forms of distortions and lies CPR and founder Rick Scott (a Republican candidate for governor in Florida) were spreading about health care reform.

From Playboy

One of the men featured in the infomercial was a doctor named Karol Sikora.  Despite not being fully informed as to how his interview would be used in the United States and actually supporting government-run health care, Dr. Sikora appeared in the infomercial to discuss the problems with government-run health care systems.  Of course, the health care reform proposed by Democrats wasn't a government-run health care system, but that's beside the point.

In August 2009, the world was scandalized as Abdelbeset Ali Mohmed al Megrahi, the Lockerbie Bomber, was released from a Scotland prison because his prostate cancer had progressed so far that he had only weeks to live.  The families of the 270 victims, the United States government, and others condemned the decision to release al Megrahi (who still maintains his innocence).

Now, in July 2010, al Megrahi has not succumbed to cancer and is living freely with his family in Libya.  It is not unusual for a doctor to guess incorrectly as to how long a patient has until an illness overtakes them.  It is unusual, however, for that mistake to result in the release of a terrorist from prison.

And the doctor who inaccurately predicted the severity of al Megrahi's cancer?
