Bill Kristol's Sleazy "NOT PRO-ISRAEL" Campaign
The Republican-aligned Emergency Committee for Israel, founded by neoconservative Bill Kristol and funded by far-right donors, is determined to make Tuesday's special election in New York's 9th Congressional District (the seat vacated by Anthony Weiner) a referendum on Israel.
It has been producing ads and videos linking the Democratic candidate to President Obama, whom it calls, over and over again, "NOT PRO-ISRAEL."
Today, a day before the election, ECI is running an ad on the New York Times website making the case that the president is "NOT PRO-ISRAEL." And it does so with this photo of President Obama and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and a caption that accuses the administration of attacking Israel at the United Nations. (Tablet's Marc Tracy has a great piece up picking apart ECI's dishonest attacks. As he points out about the U.N. claim, "The 'attack' cited came after the U.S. provided a crucial veto at the U.N. protecting Israel.")
Back to the picture. There is Obama and there is Abbas. No matter that Abbas has worked so closely with Israel to prevent terrorism that Prime Minister Netanyahu calls him his "partner."
Clearly, Obama is naïve as the rest of this "rogues gallery" of political figures who, using the ECI's standards, are "NOT PRO-ISRAEL." No wonder ECI is in a panic. Some of these people have successfully posed as being "PRO-ISRAEL." Luckily, ECI is there to expose them as the enemies of Israel that they are.
Here are some of those "anti-Israel" demogogues posing with the sinister Abbas.
President George W. Bush, NOT PRO-ISRAEL.
President Dick Cheney, NOT PRO-ISRAEL.
Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu, NOT PRO-ISRAEL.
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, NOT PRO-ISRAEL.
Israeli President Shimon Peres, NOT PRO-ISRAEL.
Kadima Leader Ztipi Livni, NOT PRO-ISRAEL.
Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon, NOT PRO-ISRAEL.
And so on and so forth. You get the picture. Everyone is anti-Israel except Bill Kristol.
