Sen. Hatch Falsely Claims Health Care Reform Will "Double And Triple Our National Debt"

During an interview on Fox News, Sen. Orrin Hatch (R-UT) declared that passing health care reform "is going to double and triple our national debt." In reality, while the national debt currently stands at $12.6 trillion, health care reform will lower deficits by more than $100 billion by 2019.

Health Care Reform Will Reduce Deficits By Over $100 Billion In Ten Years

The Health Care Bill Will Lower The Deficit.  According to the most recent analysis by the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (CBO) and the Joint Committee on Taxation (JCT):

CBO and JCT now estimate that, on balance, the direct spending and revenue effects of enacting H.R. 3590 as passed by the Senate would yield a net reduction in federal deficits of $118 billion over the 2010-2019 period. [Congressional Budget Office, 3/11/10; emphasis added]
