Rep. McHenry Has No Idea What The Public Thinks About Global Warming
On May 12, 2009, during the Heritage Foundation's weekly Conservative Bloggers Briefing, Rep. Pat McHenry (R-NC) claimed the American people think global warming is "a bunch of bull." But recent polling shows that the American people overwhelmingly believe that global warming is real.
Rep. McHenry Falsely Claimed The American People Think Global Warming Is "A Bunch Of Bull"

FACT: Recent Polling Shows 81% Of Americans Believe Global Warming Is Real, While Only 17% Believe It Is Not Occurring. On May 5, 2009, CNN reported: "A new national poll indicates that a majority of Americans think that global warming is real, and that the federal government can do something to slow or stop the phenomenon. Fifty-four percent of those questioned in a CNN/Opinion Research Corporation survey released Tuesday say that global warming is occurring and that Washington can take steps to slow the rate of global warming, or eventually stop it altogether. Twenty-seven percent agree that global warming is real, but think the federal government is powerless to stop it or slow it down, and 17 percent say that global warming is not occurring." On the same call, Rep. McHenry repeated the myth that placing a cap on carbon emissions would cost American families over $3,000 -- a claim Media Matters Action Network has previously refuted.
