On May 6, 2009, Sen. Jeff Sessions told the Associated Press that he refused to rule out filibustering President Obama's Supreme Court nominee.

A Majority Vote Or A Filibuster? That Is The Question.

2005: Sen. Sessions: "Majority Vote For Judges." During a 2005 floor speech, Sen. Sessions said: "Since the founding of the Republic, we have understood that there was a two-thirds supermajority for ratification and advice and consent on treaties and a majority vote for judges." [Senate Floor Speech, 5/23/05, emphasis added]

2009: Sen. Sessions "Didn't Entirely Rule Out A Filibuster." According to the Associated Press: "Sen. Jeff Sessions of Alabama said a deal among centrist senators four yours ago that averted filibusters against some of former President George W. Bush's judicial nominees established a 'standard' that shouldn't be discarded except in unusual circumstances. Sessions, however, didn't entirely rule out a filibuster." [Associated Press, 5/6/09]
