Does Rep. Peter King Think He's Running For President?

Over the last two weeks, Rep. Peter King (R-NY) has been waging a one-man promotional operation for a possible presidential campaign. In that period, he has sent six emails to his Peter King for Congress email list referencing the potential run — the only emails from that account Political Correction received during that period (click to enlarge):

King emails

King first generated the story on May 18, when he sent out a press release touting a local GOP leader's call for him to seek the office; he sent an email to his list with a link to the release later that day.

Subsequent emails have touted King interviews to discuss a potential run on MSNBC, CNN, and Fox News (all of which were promptly posted to his FriendsofPeteKing YouTube account), as well as statements of support from former New York City mayors Ed Koch and Rudy Giuliani. The emails typically conclude with King asking his readers what they think of him seeking the presidency.

But King's constituents shouldn't get too excited — he told Politico that the emails are "mainly... to get attention" and that "'the more attention I can focus on myself, the more attention' gets trained on his Nassau County district, and the issues he cares about."

That article was emailed to King's list five hours after it was published.
