Political Correction Reporting Prompts Calls For Rep. Don Young To "Re-Swear His Oath" To The Constitution

Rep. Don Young

Today, the Coalition to Stop Gun Violence (CSGV) created a petition "that calls on Rep. Don Young (R-AK) to re-swear his oath to the U.S. Constitution because he endorsed a document drafted by a militia leader recently indicted for plotting to kill law enforcement and government officials."

Based on reporting done by Political Correction's David Holthouse, CSGV has begun work to force Young, who is also an NRA board member, to repudiate the "Letter of Declaration" that he signed.

The petition at DonYoungMilitiaPledge.org reads:

Rep. Don Young of Alaska, a member of the NRA's board, recently signed a "Letter of Declaration" calling for insurrection against the US government. We call on him to immediately re-swear his oath to our Constitution and repudiate the letter. Further, we call on the NRA's Wayne LaPierre to publicly repudiate the letter and Young's signing of it.

David Neiwert at Crooks and Liars quotes CSGV executive director Josh Horowitz saying:

It is simply unacceptable for a sitting member of Congress to sign a document calling for violence against the government of the United States. We call on Rep. Don Young to do the right thing and repudiate this repugnant document.

With a congressional session that opened with public readings of the Constitution it seems like Rep. Young needs a little refresher about what it means to "support and defend the Constitution."
