FLASHBACK: Sponsor Of NPR Defunding Bill Joined Resolution Honoring Discredited "Journalist" O'Keefe

Today, House Republicans are convening an "emergency meeting" of the rules committee to consider legislation that would eliminate funding for National Public Radio. The bill's sponsor is Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO), who seized on conservative activist and discredited "journalist" James O'Keefe's edited "sting" video to build momentum for his crusade against public broadcasting, which dates back to June 2010.  

Lamborn insists that his legislation is all about protecting the taxpayers and not punishing NPR, but it's worth noting that the congressman has a history of admiring O'Keefe, whose unethical schemes have gotten him in trouble with the law as well as the media. In 2009, Lamborn was one of 31 House Republicans who cosponsored a resolution honoring O'Keefe's "exemplary actions" and declaring that he is "owed a debt of gratitude by the people of the United States." From the resolution:

Whereas Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe III have displayed exemplary actions as government watchdogs and young journalists uncovering wasteful government spending; and

Whereas Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe III are owed a debt of gratitude by the people of the United States: Now, therefore, be it

Resolved, That the House of Representatives-

(1)   honors Hannah Giles and James O'Keefe III for their work as investigative journalists;
