Rep. Foxx Blatantly Lies, Claims Democrats Have Not Cut Anybody's Taxes

November 30, 2010 4:18 pm ET — Matt Finkelstein

Speaking on the House floor today, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) claimed that no American has received a tax cut since Democrats took control of Congress in 2006. "Contrary to statements repeated over and over again by our colleagues across the aisle, Americans have not enjoyed any tax cuts in the past four years since they have been in charge of this Congress," Foxx asserted, before launching into a series of misleading statements about the Democrats' plans to deal with the expiring Bush tax cuts. Watch:

Foxx's contention that no American has received a tax cut in the past four years is an outright lie. As the nonpartisan has confirmed, President Obama and congressional Democrats "cut taxes for 95 percent of working families" in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Indeed, while Republicans like Foxx decry the cost of the recovery effort, $288 billion — more than one-third of its price tag — came from tax cuts that Republicans demanded.
