Rep. Gohmert Abhors Illegal Palestinian Settlements

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) is adamantly opposed to the Obama administration's support for illegal Palestinian settlements. You read that right. As Palestinians continue to push for expanded settlement activity on Israeli land, and as Israel continues to lose more and more of its land to "illegal Palestinian settlements," the administration's insistence on siding with Palestinians is making the prospects for Middle East peace evermore daunting.

That might not conform to your understanding of what's been going on in the region, but that's probably because you're not actually paying attention. When you consider, for instance, that Gohmert single-handedly brought the threat posed by terror babies into our national conscience, you might be forced to accept that he really does know things the rest of us can't easily see. You start to see the struggle that Israel faces in fighting Palestinian encroachment on its land.

Gohmert made the absurd comments on the House floor last night. While discussing border security with Rep. Ted Poe (R-TX), Gohmert mentioned that violent Mexican drug cartels have made areas near the U.S.-Mexico border — and state parks and nature preserves in particular — no-go zones. In other words, Gohmert argued, by advising Americans to stay away, the U.S. government was in effect ceding land to Mexico. But ever the optimist, Gohmert did see a silver lining in it all:

GOHMERT: The only good news I see out of that is that for so long, I've been greatly concerned with the hypocrisy of this administration telling Israel, "Just let Palestinians build illegal settlements and take over areas that are not theirs. Just let 'em take over." And I thought, "How hypocritical for our U.S. administration to tell Israel, 'just let people take over areas of your country they're not authorized to takeover,' cause we would never allow that here in the U.S." Which brings me to the only good thing about violent illegal alien drug smugglers taking over American soil: At least we're not hypocritical anymore when we tell Israel just to let people take over land that's not theirs. Because now this administration can say, "Look, Israel, we're doing it here. We're letting people take over American soil that they shouldn't. So you can do it, too."
