Sarah Palin Victory Video: It's Backwards Sunset In America

November 04, 2010 1:25 pm ET — Alan Pyke

Midway through Sarah Palin's video celebration of Tuesday's elections, Palin tells viewers that "this is our moment, this is our morning in America." A burning orange sun climbs into a partly-cloudy sky, silhouetting the Statue of Liberty for just a moment before the upbeat, guitar-driven video bounces on to a montage of victorious, Palin-endorsed conservative politicians.

But it turns out "our morning" is actually a digitally-reversed sunset from an online stock-footage merchant. The sun doesn't rise in that spot. But Palin wasn't satisfied with stock sunrise footage, and subtlety isn't her bag. The end result is pretty compelling symbolism, though not the sort Palin intended.

Americans can always rely on Sarah Palin to rewind our great nation and take us backwards (but with jangly guitars and roaring bears for entertainment).

Update: It's worth remembering that this is not the first time Lady Liberty has conspired to embarrass the First Lady of Folksiness.
