Joe Miller Says Palin Is Constitutionally Qualified To Be President

October 06, 2010 3:32 pm ET — Matt Finkelstein

Yesterday, leaked emails revealed a dispute between Todd Palin and Tea Party-backed Senate candidate Joe Miller (R-AK) over Miller's apparent hesitation to say Sarah Palin is qualified to be president.  Palin dismissed the feud as a nonstory invented by the "lamestream media," but Miller may have just added some fuel to the fire.  During an interview on Fox News, Miller said that Palin has done "phenomenal things" for the country and that "of course she's qualified" under the Constitution, but he declined to give a straight answer about whether Palin would make a capable commander-in-chief.

MILLER: Let me make this unequivocal. She's done phenomenal things for this country, there's no question about that. She's elevated the debate, critical to our race, and let me tell you also, we know what qualified means, don't we? We know that we have a constitutional requirement for somebody that's gonna run for President. Of course she's qualified.

Miller, of course, has shown that he takes the Constitution extremely literally, opposing several government programs on the grounds that they were not specifically authorized by the framers.  Therefore, one could say that touting Palin's constitutional qualifications is high praise considering the source.
