J.D. Hayworth On Benefits Of Illegal Immigration: "Cheap Labor" And "Cheap Votes"
Former Congressman, and current McCain challenger, J.D. Hayworth (R-AZ) has never shied away from proclaiming his anti-immigrant platform at every opportunity.
Today was no different. During an appearance on CNN with Rick Sanchez, Hayworth insisted that the only benefits of illegal immigration have been "cheap labor on the right and, in some cases, cheap votes for the left."
Watch:
RICK SANCHEZ, host: Do you know anything about the arguments coming from the other side regarding illegal immigrants?
REP. JD HAYWORTH: Sure, I hear their arguments all the time.
SANCHEZ: Do you think they make any contributions to life in America?
HAYWORTH: Well, I think that legal immigrants do--
SANCHEZ: No, illegal. Illegal. Illegal. Illegal.
HAYWORTH: No I think if we embrace, Rick, which you seem willing to do, embrace the myth of the noble migrant, to use the term, fails to take into account those who have come here. For example, infamously within the last year, the so-called [crosstalk]
SANCHEZ: Hold on, no, could you do me a favor? Answer my question. Answer my question.
HAYWORTH: You really don't want me to answer, do you?
SANCHEZ: No I do actually. Let me restate it 'cause I think maybe it was my fault. Maybe I--
HAYWORTH: You would rather do is be an advocate and debate.
SANCHEZ: No I don't, no. Debate, yes.
HAYWORTH: That's okay. Go ahead. What's your point, Rick? The floor is yours, it's your program. Go ahead.
SANCHEZ: Are you ready? Do you know of any benefits that have been provided to Americans by illegal immigrants? Any?
HAYWORTH: A steady stream of cheap labor for the right and, in some cases, cheap votes for the left.
SANCHEZ: Do you know that there are $7 billion that is subsidized into your Social Security that some day you may be able to retire on that was taken off the backs of illegal aliens who will never recover those Social Securities that they paid into? Study in the New York Times.
HAYWORTH: Rick. Rick. That's precisely the point, isn't it? You're asking us to protect a portion of society that can become a permanent underclass. And with reference to the $7 billion, how does that square with $2.6 trillion in-[satellite drops]
SANCHEZ: Drats.
