Sen. McCain Hypocritically Attacks Secretary Napolitano For Changing Stance On Border Troops
Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) has been tacking to the right on immigration reform since the 2008 primary, when he declared that he no longer supported his own bill. Lately, McCain's evolution has become a subject of ridicule across the political spectrum. For example, his recent campaign ad calling on the government to "complete the danged fence" on the southern border was widely mocked, even among his own supporters.
Last night on Fox News, however, McCain denounced Department of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano for allegedly changing her position on border security:
MCCAIN: I'm very disappointed in the former governor because as far back as 2006, Janet Napolitano asked for additional troops on the border, also asked for the federal government to repay the expenses that are involved with illegal immigration. I guess she proved again that old adage it isn't so much where you stand, it's where you sit.
Watch:
Of course, McCain is not one to talk. Despite his current posturing, in 2006, McCain said that putting troops on the border was "partially PR." Furthermore, he has repeatedly voted against additional funding for border security -- including that "danged fence"! It's almost as if McCain's fixation now on sending troops to the border is more about PR than policy.
