Republicans Are Killing Immigration Reform While Blaming Democrats For Not Fixing The Problem
Proponents of the racial-profiling law in Arizona are arguing that such an extreme measure was necessary because the federal government has not done its duty in securing the border.
Today on Fox, Arizona Governor Jan Brewer said that she wanted "less promises and a little bit more action" from the White House and Congress on immigration reform. Sen. John McCain has said "the federal government is not carrying out its constitutional responsibilities to secure our border." Sens. Lindsey Graham and Jon Kyl said the Democrats' new reform proposal is "nothing more than an attempt to secure political points."
Of course, some of those same voices -- coughMcCaincough -- have voted AGAINST measures that would have provided staff and funding for border security measures in the southwest.
That's right...President Obama and Democrats in Congress are trying to work on a comprehensive immigration bill that would secure the border and regulate immigration. Republicans are trying to kill, stall, and disparage those efforts -- and still blame Democrats for not taking action sooner.
It's amazing that these people have to gall to accuse the federal government of not doing anything, not only because in reality it's the Republicans who are stalling the process but also because it's members of the Republican party who continue to make disgusting and dehumanizing statements about immigrants.
Republicans, Tea Partiers, and conservatives need to start looking at themselves when they're placing blame for why our immigration system is so thoroughly broken.
