Chertoff Defends Napolitano, Says She's Done A "Good Job"
During a January 6, 2010 appearance on Fox & Friends, Michael Chertoff, who served as Secretary of Homeland Security during the latter part of the Bush administration, openly defended his successor, Janet Napolitano.
After being asked if she should lose her job, Chertoff said:
I actually think she's done a good job, and what actually emerges, yesterday is that the problem doesn't lie with her and her department, it really lies with the intelligence fusion process and the people on the analytical level who were responsible for seizing on the threat information and making sure it was followed through upon.
Watch:
Unlike today's Republican Party, Sec. Chertoff recognizes the importance of separating America's security from Washington's partisan politics.
Just yesterday, RNC Chairman Michael Steele called for Napolitano's resignation, saying, "I agree with the Republican leadership that called for her resignation, yes. I think the risks are too high and the experience required to do this job is too great. And I think on both fronts she's fallen short." (As POLITICO noted, while they have harshly criticized Napolitano, the GOP leadership has NOT called for her ouster. Steele is wrong - again.)
If Republicans are sincere in their desire to protect Americans from the evils of terrorism, they should follow Chertoff's lead and quit playing games with the security of our nation.
