Rep. Shuster Observes That It's Cold In Copenhagen

December 15, 2009 3:36 pm ET — Matt Finkelstein

Today, Rep. Bill Shuster (R-PA) offered a new reason not to take action on global warming: it's cold in Copenhagen, where the UN Climate Change Conference is currently taking place.  Shuster posted the following on his Amplify page:

Climate change deniers make the same argument with glee every winter, as if snowfall in Scandinavia, in December, is surefire proof that the science is wrong.

Of course, Shuster is confusing weather for climate, and the overall trends remain unchanged.  The glaciers are melting, the last ten years are the warmest on record, and the burning of greenhouse gases is fueling the problem

But don't expect a little thing like facts to deter the deniers from treating every snow day this winter like an Earth-shattering event.
