Rep. Brady's Petty Political Ploy

December 15, 2009 12:32 pm ET — Chris Harris

Today Rep. Kevin Brady tweeted disparagingly about a new bill ensuring the volume of television advertisements are "no louder than the average maximum loudness of the programs they accompany."

Brady gives his followers the false impression he would prefer to focus solely on the big issues in front of congress without touching those of a less pressing nature.

However, a quick glance at the bills and resolutions Brady has cosponsored this year reveal that nothing could be further from the truth.

Here are just a few:

HR 366:

Recognizing the 40th anniversary of the National Eye Institute (NEI) and expressing support for designation of 2010 through 2020 as the "Decade of Vision".

HR 523:

Congratulating the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary.

HR 631:

Congratulating Continental Airlines on its 75th Anniversary

HR 650:

Recognizing that country music has made a tremendous contribution to American life and culture and declaring country music to be a uniquely American art form.

HR 2325:

To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 1300 Matamoros Street in Laredo, Texas, as the "Laredo Veterans Post Office".

HR 2422:

To designate the facility of the United States Postal Service located at 2300 Scenic Drive in Georgetown, Texas, as the "Kile G. West Post Office Building".

As a member of the House, Rep. Brady knows that serving in congress requires the ability to delicately balance a litany of different issues.  Feigning outrage over his colleagues' ability to multi-task is easily diagnosed as petty political posturing.
