Rep. Gohmert Wants To Eliminate Private Health Insurance

During the course of the health care debate, conservatives have routinely accused progressives of vilifying private insurance companies whose irresponsible profit chasing has helped create the need for reform.  Moreover, they claim that the public option is just a "Trojan horse" meant to force private insurers out of business.

However, in a recent interview with KLTV in Texas, conservative Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) suggested that he's in favor of eliminating private insurance.  Gohmert, a vocal critic of the reform plans in Congress, recently said that Democrats wanted to let senior citizens "die off more quickly." But he also told the network that he wants insurance companies (and the government) "out of the health care management business":

GOHMERT: We need insurance companies and the government out of the health care management business so that doctors and patients can make their own decisions.

Notably, Gohmert has introduced a health care bill of his own, which -- despite the posturing of his party --- would eliminate Medicare altogether.
