Rep. Boehner Blames Unemployment On Nonexistent Laws

December 04, 2009 11:21 am ET — Chris Harris

Reacting to new unemployment data, Rep. John Boehner blamed the crisis on health care reform, clean energy legislation, and the Employee Free Choice Act.  However, blaming an ongoing crisis on potential future legislation is akin to saying, "I have heartburn because I'm considering eating tacos tonight."

At 8:30 this morning, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced that "unemployment rate edged down to 10.0 percent in November."

As CNN reported, "U.S. payrolls slipped 11,000 jobs in the month, far below any of the job losses posted over the last 23 months. Economists surveyed by Briefing.com had forecast a loss of 125,000 jobs in November."

While an unemployment rate of 10% is still a giant problem for the American economy, there is no denying that the unexpected decline is good news.

Reacting to the jobs report, House Minority Leader issued an utterly ridiculous statement, including:

Anyone who views today's report as cause for celebration is out of touch with the American people, especially when Washington Democrats' policies - whether it's a government takeover of health care, a national energy tax, or 'card check' - are already costing jobs and will pile even more debt on our kids and grandkids.

Ignoring the fact that his statement is factually wrong on many levels, Rep. Boehner is apparently blaming the unemployment crisis on three proposals that have not been passed by Congress, nor signed into law.

Blaming an ongoing crisis on potential future legislation is akin to saying, "I have heartburn because I'm considering eating tacos tonight."

It seems the Republican Party is too busy writing nonsensical press releases that fly in the face of logic to work with Democrats as they craft ways to put the American people back to work.
