Rep. Cantor Crticizes Limbaugh -- Will He Apologize?

November 06, 2009 4:52 pm ET — Matt Finkelstein

In an interview with Bloomberg's Al Hunt, House Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) criticized Rush Limbaugh for comparing President Obama to Hitler:

Eric Cantor, the second-ranking Republican in the U.S. House, said his party needs to be inclusive and specifically said that some comments by talk-show host Rush Limbaugh were inappropriate. [...]

Cantor, when asked about Limbaugh's comments that "Adolf Hitler, like Barack Obama, also ruled by dictate" and his comparison of the administration's health-care logo to a swastika, said Limbaugh was wrong.

"Do I condone the mention of Hitler in any discussion about politics?" Cantor said. "No, I don't, because obviously that is something that conjures up images that frankly are not, I think, very helpful."

This year, Rep. Phil Gingrey (R-GA), Rep. Todd Tiahrt (R-KS), and RNC Chairman Michael Steele have criticized Limbaugh only to beg for forgiveness later.  Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-IN) and Rep. Steve King (R-IA) have also sucked up to the loudest voice of conservatism.

Cantor was clearly careful with his words, but that's not likely to save him from the wrath of the Dittoheads. How long until he walks back his comments?
