Rep. Joe Wilson: "The Voters Spoke Yesterday" Against Democratic Health Care Reform

November 04, 2009 5:24 pm ET — Matt Finkelstein

Today, Rep. Joe "You Lie!" Wilson (R-SC) appeared on Fox News with Neil Cavuto to discuss the Affordable Health Care for America Act.

Asked about the bill making its way through the House, Wilson cited yesterday's elections as evidence that the American people don't want Congress to enact Democratic plans for health care reform.

"I think it's a disconnect," Wilson said. "The voters spoke yesterday, and they want limited government, not big government." Watch it:

While Republicans won gubernatorial races in New Jersey and Virginia, voters in both states indicated that their votes reflected local concerns, not national ones.

There were, however, two races last night in which voters actually had a chance to send a representative to Washington. Both contests were won by Democrats who will work with President Obama. In fact, the voters in NY-23 elected a Democratic representative for the first time "since the mid-19th century."
