GOP Reps Rely On Revolution-Era Phrase To Drum Up Opposition To Health Care

"Whites Of Their Eyes"

It's well known that Reps. Michele Bachmann and Steve King have a very close working relationship.  Not only do they give one another hip little nicknames, but they also share violent American revolution-era phrases to drum up opposition to Democratic plans for health insurance reform.

Watch as they advertise an anti-reform rally in Washington:

Promoting the protest, Rep. King stressed that the bill "needs to be killed for the sake of freedom... for the freedom that was fought for." On Glenn Beck's radio show this morning, Rep. Bachmann referred the protesters as "freedom fighters."

Both King and Bachmann also employed the "whites of their eyes" expression made famous during the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Wanting to conserve scarce ammunition, the colonial army needed to "make every bullet count." In order to ensure that every shot would inflict as much damage as possible, the fighting would need to be at very close range.  Accordingly, colonial soldiers were ordered: "Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes."

This type of overly dramatic rhetoric only serves to strike fear in the hearts of Americans and blur the real issues facing lawmakers in Washington.
