Rep. Cantor Hypocritically Complains About Wilson Rebuke
While arguing against a resolution disapproving of Rep. Joe Wilson's (R-SC) outburst during President Obama's address to a joint session of Congress, Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA) complained that the resolution was a distraction from the real issues. Speaking on the House floor, Cantor said:
The resolution, as has been pointed out, creates no jobs. The resolution does nothing to do anything to increase access to quality health care. The resolution does nothing to address the issues of national security. Plain and simple, this resolution does not reflect the priority of the American people.
Watch it:
Cantor made a similar complaint in May, leading Ben Armbruster to point out that the congressman has cosponsored his fair share of "distracting" resolutions. For example, in March, Cantor cosponsored H. Res. 204, "[c]ongratulating the American Dental Association for its 150th year of working to improve the public's oral health and promoting dentistry." In July, another Republican lawmaker, Rep. Thaddeus McCotter (R-MI), introduced a resolution calling on President Obama to "apologize to Cambridge, Massachusetts Police Sergeant James M. Crowley."
**Update: The resolution rebuking Wilson passed by a vote of 240-179.
