Rep. Broun Literally Walks Away From Constituent With Health Care Problems

September 09, 2009 5:00 pm ET — Matt Finkelstein

Yesterday, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA) held one final town hall before returning to the Capitol for the fall.  The Athens Banner-Herald reports, "Broun argued that health care in the United States is fine, but the way it is paid for needs to be changed. America's health care system is the best in the world, he said." The congressman also revealed plans to introduce his own health care bill in "a week or two" based on free-market principles.

After the event, a man named Ryan Lewis tried to tell the congressman about his own health care struggles.  Lewis, who claimed to have "passed 12 kidney stones with no medical attention because I can't get it covered," wanted to know how Broun would make health insurance more affordable for him.  However, Broun didn't have an answer and tried to dodge the question.  When pressed further, Broun said, "If you have a suggestion, send it to me" before turning his back and walking away.  Here's the video (via Katy Burtner):

Broun recently warned that President Obama could "declare martial law" and "establish an authoritarian government." He previously claimed the public option "is gonna kill people."
