Sen. Inhofe Says "Barack Obama Is Disarming America"

Last week, Sen. Jim Inhofe (R-OK) raised the prospect of "revolution" against President Obama's policies. "We're almost reaching a revolution in this country," he said.  The comment was especially troubling coming from a senator who previously suggested that Obama might side with terrorists.

Now, Inhofe is ramping up his vitriol.  Tulsa World reports that the ultra-conservative lawmaker told a town hall audience yesterday that "every institution that has made this country the greatest nation in the world is under attack":

Inhofe gave his constituents plenty to worry about.

"Every institution that has made this country the greatest nation in the world is under attack," he said at the end of the 75-minute session.

During those 75 minutes, Inhofe said President Barack Obama is disarming the military, is destroying everything good about America, and is determined to turn foreign terrorists loose on U.S. soil.

Indeed, Inhofe's exact words were: "I don't know why President Obama is obsessed with turning terrorists loose in America" (which he said after claiming "there has never been a case of torture" at Guantanamo Bay) and "Barack Obama is disarming America."

Worst of all, Inhofe seemed to suggest that the country may not survive under Democratic rule.  Referring to next year's midterm elections, Inhofe said, "Those of you who think like I do hope this country can hang on another 16 months."

This kind of fear-mongering, of course, is nothing new for the right wing, but that doesn't make it any less despicable.
