Sen. DeMint Opposes Government Involvement In People's Lives, But Supports Federal Marriage Amendment
Ironically, the health insurance reform opponent's website explains that he supports a ban on same-sex marriage to ensure that kids are raised in the "healthiest" environments.
During his "virtual town hall" last night, Sen. Jim DeMint (R-SC) continued bashing Democratic plans for health insurance reform.
The House health care bill, DeMint complained, is a bunch of "legal gibberish" putting the government in control of the "most personal" aspect of people's lives.
However, DeMint isn't always opposed to government involvement in people's personal lives. Indeed, the conservative senator is a strong supporter of a Constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. He also co-sponsored the Marriage Protection Act of 2004 as a member of the House.
Ironically, DeMint's website explains that he supports a ban on same-sex marriage "so children will be raised in the healthiest of environments."
