Rep. Gohmert Joins The Birther Movement
Over the past few weeks, the right-wing "birther" movement has become a nagging headache for the Republican party. With birther leader Orly Taitz bragging about support from GOP leaders, some conservative members of Congress have drawn criticism for refusing to denounce the conspiracy theorists. Meanwhile, others have tried to run away -- literally -- from addressing the matter.
Quietly, though, Rep. Bill Posey's (R-FL) "birther bill" has gained yet another cosponsor. Yesterday, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) became the latest Republican congressman to declare support for the bill.
Notably, Rep. Gohmert hasn't issued a press release announcing his sponsorship, so it seems he doesn't want to advertise his move toward the fringe.
