GOP Rep. Don Young: It's "Not True" That The Employee Free Choice Act Eliminates The Secret Ballot
During an appearance in Alaska last week, GOP Rep. Don Young refuted one of his party's favorite talking points.
Greg Sargent reports that Rep. Don Young (R-AK) has crossed the aisle to debunk one of the GOP's favorite talking points against the Employee Free Choice Act. Speaking to "Alaskans for Liberty" last week, Young said the frequently repeated claim that the bill would eliminate secret-ballot union elections is "not true":
"I believe in unions. I believe in working people. They say the secret ballot is eliminated. That's not true. A secret ballot can be requested."
As Media Matters Action Network has pointed out time and time again, the Employee Free Choice Act "gives workers a choice of forming a union through majority sign-up ('card check') or an election by secret ballot."
